Horizon Europe is the European Union (EU) funding programme for the period 2021 – 2027, which targets the sectors of research and innovation. The programme’s budget is around € 95.5 billion, of which € 5.4 billion is from NextGenerationEU to stimulate recovery and strengthen the EU’s resilience in the future, and € 4.5 billion is additional aid.
The New European Bauhaus (NEB) is essentially a project that aims to be a bridge between the world of science and technology and the world of art and culture, where citizens shall need to take ownership of the Green Deal.
It will become a co-creation space where architects, artists, students, engineers, designers, cultural and heritage professionals, and other population groups of society, such as for example persons with disabilities, children, young and older persons, will work together to translate the Green Deal objectives into tangible applications, inclusive and accessible experiences for citizens and stakeholders.
This should be achieved by combining the three dimensions of sustainability, quality (of life, of human experiences, of architecture) and social inclusion.
The NEB is an initiative focused on achieving societal impact, therefore proposals should critically reflect on and elaborate practical solutions to apply its principles to the built environment, public spaces, such as green spaces and living environments that provide space and opportunities for recovery and social contacts, and cultural-artistic practices, across the many different socio-economic and cultural settings in Europe.
Research could for example deal with heritage sites and cultural landscapes, aiming to protect and enhance their values in order to improve the well-being and sense of belonging of users/residents, the accessibility for persons with specific fragilities as well as experimenting CCIs-driven innovation in living spaces.
