Horizon Europe is the European Union (EU) funding programme for the period 2021 – 2027, which targets the sectors of research and innovation. The programme’s budget is around € 95.5 billion, of which € 5.4 billion is from NextGenerationEU to stimulate recovery and strengthen the EU’s resilience in the future, and € 4.5 billion is additional aid.
Proposals under this Call, will step up EU support to processes triggered by IPBES (Europe and Central Asia form one region for IPBES purposes) and IPCC (Climate Science and Responses) to achieve targeted impacts on biodiversity-relevant policies, and to integrate structured policy input into the research cycle. This action delivers targeted support to areas of specific interest for European research policy by using IPBES outputs. It also helps European researchers play their role in IPBES assessments, in particular those from southern, central and eastern European countries, and those from the Western Balkans, Central Asia, and from Africa, who remain underrepresented, due to a lack of capacity to participate in meetings, networking or science input at global level.
Three major functions of IPBES still need to be further developed to achieve a proper level of uptake in Europe:
knowledge generation, policy support and capacity building functions, including the task forces.
The project should detail a plan on how the work can be further financed and governed over the medium- and long-term and secure commitments that enable the work to continue after the funding of this topic ends. It should cover the following points:
Proposals must ensure that all relevant evidence, data and information is accessible through e.g. the Oppla portal and cooperate with existing networks of national platforms.
100%
EU contribution per project: €5,00 million
Legal entities established in all member states of the African Union are exceptionally eligible for Union funding.
