Key Digital Technologies

Summary

The “Key Digital Technologies” European Partnership is a European public-private partnership for the management of a Joint Research and Innovation Program aimed at strengthening the EU’s strategic autonomy in the field of electronic components and systems.

Detailed Call Description

The “European Partnerships” Program offers the possibility of the participation of entities from Cyprus in international research and innovation projects in sectors and thematic areas of great importance for the country. At the same time, it promotes the extroversion, cooperation and networking of Cypriot research organizations and businesses with agencies from other countries through their participation in the projects implemented within the framework of the European Partnerships in which it participates.

European Partnerships are initiatives where the EU, national authorities and/or the private sector jointly commit to support the development and implementation of a program of research and innovation activities. The partnerships will:

  • address the complex challenges outlined in Horizon Europe, such as accelerating the transition to a climate-neutral and circular society and economy;
  • support the achievement of EU priorities such as the European Green Deal, ‘A Europe ready for the digital age’, ‘An economy at the service of people’ and ‘A stronger Europe in the world’;
  • build on impact by developing a wide range of R&D activities, from concept to demonstration and validation, and to activities that support market, regulatory and societal adoption, and
  • contribute to a stronger European Research Area (ERA), by avoiding duplication of efforts, creating critical scale investments and enhancing synergies between programmes.

Through the funded Projects, the KDT Partnership seeks to ensure that the EU has the necessary expertise in key technologies of general application to become a leader in the global digital economy. This includes the development of advanced semiconductors and applications that are vital to European society and contribute to the EU’s digital strategy and the European Green Deal.

Through the Program, research and innovation projects are implemented, which are implemented by international cooperation networks that include agencies from the countries participating in the Program. Centralized Proposal submission and evaluation procedures are followed, while the participating bodies are funded by the EU and the relevant funding organizations of their country.
