The vision of the Programme is to contribute to a smart, sustainable and fair development for all across the Mediterranean Basin by supporting a balanced, long-lasting and far-reaching cooperation as well as multilevel governance.
The 3rd Call for Proposals under the Interreg NEXT MED Programme concerns Capitalisation Projects in the field of Sustainable Tourism. Its objective is to support the transfer, adaptation, testing, and scaling-up of solutions that have already been developed and validated through previous Interreg projects across the Mediterranean. The call is implemented within the framework of the Mediterranean Multi-Programme Mechanism (MMM) and promotes initiatives that strengthen innovation, the green transition, the social dimension of tourism, and tourism governance. Project proposals must build upon at least one result generated by a project funded under another participating MMM programme and demonstrate how this result will be further exploited and replicated to create wider impact across the Mediterranean region.
The call makes available an EU contribution of approximately €8.25 million and constitutes the third and final call for proposals under the Interreg NEXT MED 2021–2027 programming period. It funds capitalisation projects aimed at reusing, adapting, transferring and scaling existing solutions and outputs previously developed by Interreg cooperation projects, rather than creating entirely new products or services. Each proposal is required to build upon at least one relevant output generated under another programme participating in the Mediterranean Multi-Programme Mechanism (MMM).
The call focuses on four thematic areas of sustainable tourism: (i) innovative and smart tourism products, (ii) tourism and the green transition, (iii) the social dimension of tourism, including employment, upskilling, inclusive and accessible tourism, and (iv) shared and strategic governance of tourism. Supported actions may include pilot implementation, transfer of methodologies and tools, capacity-building activities, policy development, networking, and measures to integrate successful solutions into institutional frameworks and territorial development strategies.
Partnerships must involve at least five organizations from at least three eligible countries, including at least one EU Member State and one Partner Country. Projects must have a duration between 18 and 24 months. The EU contribution per project ranges from €920,000 to €1,200,000 and covers 92% of the total eligible project budget.
