Open Science projects are scientific research projects, citizen science projects, or proposals to develop services or networks, in the scientific disciplines covered by, and beyond the Science Clusters. They have been implemented to make (meta)data, software, tools and/or workflows FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable) and available to fellow researchers and the general public, to facilitate accessibility and reuse by the scientific community at large.

Proposals that develop and/or make available services or tools (software; hardware; middleware; protocols; standards; benchmarks; documentation and training/mentoring materials; activities and resources), which enable Open Research in a field and encourage open science practice based on FAIR principles, are also eligible. As the 1st Open Call supported a large number of the latter type of project, applications are welcome that make use of existing FAIR data objects or services from one domain (or multiple domains) to address a specific scientific question, in the expectation of producing new scientific results by the end of the project. High quality applications by organisations that have not received funding in the 1st OSCARS Open Call, for subjects distinct from those previously supported, will therefore be prioritised in the 2nd Open Call.

The potential maximum of funded projects in the 2nd OSCARS Open Call is 30, if all projects ask for the minimum amount of funding.
If projects ask for a similar amount of funding as in the 1st OSCARS Open Call, about 13 projects will be funded.

The OSCARS Team will offer one Q&A online session about the application process for the OSCARS 2nd Open Call, allowing participants to ask questions and get live answers from the Science Clusters’ representatives.
