Build the European food safety knowledge ecosystem, ensuring safe food as the basis for healthy diets and sustainable food systems.
The overarching tasks are
a) to provide strategic and operational support to the Advisory Group on Data (AGoD) and EFSA in enhancing methods, processes, and tools related to data collection and data sharing.
b) to contribute to the sponsorship and monitoring of new AGoD’s and EFSA’s data initiatives in close collaboration with the iDATA Unit, ENREL Unit, and relevant EFSA programmes. To achieve the above overarching tasks, the beneficiary will be expected to coordinate, execute, and monitor activities (e.g. projects) aligned with the objectives of AgoD and its subgroups.
Support activities related to the collection and analysis of harmonised and high-quality food consumption and food composition. Support to the terminology management of EFSA is also foreseen.
Lot1: Improved methods for chemical and biological monitoring data collection and reporting in collaboration with AGoD and EFSA programs
Task 1 – Meeting Management
Organize and facilitate meetings of AgoD and/or its subgroups: coordinate agendas, prepare and share minutes, and compile annual activity reports. Support the chair(s) in reporting progress to EFSA bodies.
Task 2 – Community Engagement
Plan and implement community engagement activities and workshops: design and facilitate engagement formats to involve stakeholders and experts.
Task 3 – Stakeholder Liaison
Maintain active communication and collaboration with colleagues from various Member States: foster collaboration and information exchange with national representatives.
Task 4 – Performance Monitoring
Develop and apply metrics and KPIs to track progress on AgoD’s roadmap activities: monitor progress of subgroup activities using measurable indicators.
Task 5 – Outreach and Events
Support outreach activities: play a key role in organizing and delivering outreach events such as symposia, hackathons, and conferences, in collaboration with the EFSA events team.
Task 6 – Initiative Coordination
Support EFSA in coordinating and monitoring data initiatives that align with the AgoD roadmap or EFSA’s related programmes and projects: track and report on initiatives aligned with the AgoD roadmap and EFSA programmes.
Task 1 – Evaluation of Food Consumption Data
Evaluate available and new food consumption data, including quality checks of data, comparison of results from different dietary surveys, use of the FoodEx2 classification system, and updates to the EFSA Comprehensive European Food Consumption Database.
Task 2 – EU Menu Guidance and Surveys
Update the EU Menu guidance and launch the second round of EU Menu surveys.
Task 3 – Evaluation of Tools and Methods
Evaluate new tools and methods to optimize access to the above-mentioned data.
Task 4 – European Food Composition Database
Develop, publish, and maintain an Open Access European Food Composition Database.
Task 5 – Maintenance of FoodEx2 and EFSA Catalogues
Maintain the FoodEx2 system and other EFSA catalogues used by data providers to submit data to EFSA.
Task 6 – Training and Presentations
Prepare and provide presentations and trainings related to the previous tasks.
The total envelope EFSA has available to award grants under this call for proposals is € 750.000 (Lot 1 €210.000 and Lot 2 €540.000).
To be eligible, applicants must be on the list of competent organisations designated by the Member States in accordance with Article 36 of Regulation (EC) 178/2002 and Commission Regulation (EC) 2230/2004. This list is regularly updated by the EFSA Management Board and is available for consultation at the following link: EFSA Competent Organisations.
To achieve the main objective of the call, proposals can be submitted by a single eligible organisation. Consortia are not permitted under this call.
Verification of Requirements
The following requirements will be verified:
On the day of the deadline for submission of proposals, the applicant is listed as a competent organisation designated by the Member States in accordance with Article 36 of Regulation (EC) 178/2002 and Commission Regulation (EC) 2230/2004.
The applicant participates financially in the project.
The applicant is actively involved in the execution of the project.
