Horizon Europe is the European Union (EU) funding programme for the period 2021 – 2027, which targets the sectors of research and innovation. The programme’s budget is around € 95.5 billion, of which € 5.4 billion is from NextGenerationEU to stimulate recovery and strengthen the EU’s resilience in the future, and € 4.5 billion is additional aid.
The OPS solutions currently available on the market, although compliant with the standards, have gaps in terms of flexibility and modularity, in particular in relation to the expected future demand in terminals with high turnover and diverse maritime traffic.
OPS solutions for port infrastructure are so far static or have limited flexibility at the quay, resulting in many static connections being required to meet port requirements.
As an alternative or complement, further research is required into OPS solutions that enable the provision of OPS within and between different terminals and port areas.
OPS: Onshore Power Supply
The development of solutions to simultaneously provide OPS, fast battery charging as well as loading operations needs further standardisation and dedicated protocols. Standardisation of fast battery charging is underway; therefore, proposals are encouraged to explore relevant research for fast battery charging beyond the current or soon to be adopted standards (e.g., IEC/EEE 80005-4) to be implemented in the developed solutions for OPS at anchorage or mobile and flexible OPS.

Expected EU contribution per project: €5.00 million
A number of non-EU/non-Associated Countries that are not automatically eligible for funding have made specific provisions for making funding available for their participants in Horizon Europe projects.
