{"id":31006,"date":"2023-09-29T09:24:32","date_gmt":"2023-09-29T06:24:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.fundingprogrammesportal.gov.cy\/2023\/09\/nature-based-solutions-for-biodiversity-human-well-being-and-transformative-change-biodivnbs-2023-2024-gr\/"},"modified":"2023-09-29T09:28:38","modified_gmt":"2023-09-29T06:28:38","slug":"nature-based-solutions-for-biodiversity-human-well-being-and-transformative-change-biodivnbs-2023-2024-gr","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.fundingprogrammesportal.gov.cy\/en\/2023\/09\/nature-based-solutions-for-biodiversity-human-well-being-and-transformative-change-biodivnbs-2023-2024-gr\/","title":{"rendered":"Nature-based solutions for biodiversity, human well-being and transformative change &#8211; BiodivNBS 2023-2024"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"x_x_MsoNormal x_elementToProof\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">The call addresses topics identified under the Biodiversa+<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">\u00a0<a id=\"OWA1dc5331b-7f31-03e0-2662-4a93e5b8de47\" class=\"x_OWAAutoLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.biodiversa.eu\/about-us\/flagship-programmes\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-auth=\"NotApplicable\" data-linkindex=\"0\">Flagship programme<\/a>\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">\u201cBetter knowledge to develop, deploy and assess nature-based solutions\u201d<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">.\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">Specifically, it focuses on\u00a0<b>biodiversity and nature-based solutions (NBS) for biodiversity, human well-being and transformative change to achieve sustainability<\/b>.<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p class=\"x_x_MsoNormal x_elementToProof\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">The Biodiversa+ Partnership is one of the actions included in the EU Biodiversity Strategy for 2030 to &#8216;make the bridge between science, policy and practice, and make nature-based solutions a reality on the ground&#8217; (<\/span><span class=\"x_x_MsoHyperlink\"><span lang=\"EN-US\"><a id=\"OWAf975fa29-cc1d-b4c8-c1e8-bdfd70a7e9aa\" class=\"x_OWAAutoLink\" href=\"https:\/\/environment.ec.europa.eu\/strategy\/biodiversity-strategy-2030_en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-auth=\"NotApplicable\" data-linkindex=\"1\">https:\/\/environment.ec.europa.eu\/strategy\/biodiversity-strategy-2030_en<\/a><\/span><\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">).<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">\u00a0Thirty-four<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">countries are contributing to the funding of this joint call (see the updated list of countries and\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\"><a id=\"OWA53af33cd-d67d-f193-13c3-660d6fe21d99\" class=\"x_OWAAutoLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.biodiversa.eu\/research-funding\/participating-funding-organisations\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-auth=\"NotApplicable\" data-linkindex=\"2\">participating Funding Organisations<\/a>).<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p class=\"x_x_MsoNormal\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">This call aims at\u00a0<\/span><b><span lang=\"EN-US\">supporting research on biodiversity to gain a better understanding of the tipping points and trade-offs and underlying mechanisms affecting Nature-based Solutions(NBs)<\/span><\/b><b><span lang=\"EN-US\">\u00a0<\/span><\/b><b><span lang=\"EN-US\">and their successful implementation with respect to the benefits for nature, human well-being and societal transformation.<\/span><\/b><span lang=\"EN-US\">\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">NBS aim at benefitting human well-being by enhancing biodiversity and recognizing their interconnectedness. Actions have to be beneficial for biodiversity and must be designed and implemented with the full engagement and consent of indigenous people and local communities where appropriate. NBS can be a powerful tool to address global challenges.<\/span><\/p>\r\n<span lang=\"EN-US\">To do so,\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">it will support transnational, interdisciplinary, transdisciplinary, and cross-sectoral research projects in all parts of the world addressing one or more of the three (non-exclusive) themes below<b>:<\/b><\/span>\r\n<ul type=\"disc\">\r\n \t<li class=\"x_x_MsoNormal\"><b><span lang=\"EN-US\">THEME A. Synergies and trade-offs of NBS in the context of human well-being<\/span><\/b><span lang=\"EN-US\">: This theme focuses on multiple links between the different goals of NBS, with a focus on jointly improving the well-functioning of the ecological system with human well-being, including physical and mental health, food and water security, as well as risk avoidance\/prevention.<\/span><\/li>\r\n \t<li class=\"x_x_MsoNormal\"><b><span lang=\"EN-US\">THEME B. NBS mitigating anthropogenic drivers of biodiversity loss<\/span><\/b><span lang=\"EN-US\">:<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">This theme will address cross-sectoral approaches to direct and indirect drivers which negatively affect biodiversity (by loss or by change) including climate change, habitat destruction and fragmentation, invasive species, pollution, etc.<\/span><\/li>\r\n \t<li class=\"x_x_MsoNormal\"><b><span lang=\"EN-US\">THEME C. The contribution of NBS for just transformative change<\/span><\/b><span lang=\"EN-US\">. This theme will address the contribution of NBS as drivers for just transformative change and just livelihoods, with specific regard to identification of barriers to transformation.<\/span><\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<p class=\"x_x_MsoNormal\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">Note that these call themes are overlapping and non-exclusive, and each project can address one or several themes. The role of biodiversity shall underpin the research in all theme, adopting &#8216;do no harm&#8217; approaches and enhancing biodiversity benefits in accordance with the concept of NBS. Similarly, the pluralistic valuation approach (IPBES 2022) is central across all themes.<\/span><\/p>\r\n<strong>Eligible applicants &amp; Consortium composition:\u00a0<\/strong>\r\n\r\n<span lang=\"EN-US\">The call is open to any eligible research organisations. National \/ regional eligibility criteria apply to research entities and for private sector organisations (profit and non-profit).<\/span>\r\n\r\n<span lang=\"EN-US\">The main applicant (project coordinator) must be employed by an eligible organisation in 1 of the countries participating in the call.<\/span>\r\n\r\n<b><span lang=\"EN-US\">Compliance with Funding\u00a0<a id=\"OWAc6e8a0ce-e649-c7c7-e6c6-9389fc486e5f\" class=\"x_OWAAutoLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.biodiversa.eu\/research-funding\/participating-funding-organisations\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-auth=\"NotApplicable\" data-linkindex=\"3\">Organisations\u2019 eligibility criteria<\/a>\u00a0and rules (e.g. eligible budget items) is mandatory<\/span><\/b><span lang=\"EN-US\">; applicants are strongly advised to approach their respective Funding Organisation Contact Point to make sure they respect all the eligibility criteria and rules.<\/span>\r\n\r\n<span lang=\"EN-US\">\u00a0All national \/ regional eligibility and rules and associated information including the Funding Organisation Contact Point are\u00a0<\/span><a id=\"OWA5c70d2f4-bfc7-2ef5-1669-26f7b88e7255\" class=\"x_OWAAutoLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.biodiversa.eu\/participating-funding-organisations\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-auth=\"NotApplicable\" data-linkindex=\"4\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">available here on the Biodiversa+ website<\/span><\/a><span lang=\"EN-US\">.<\/span>\r\n\r\n<span lang=\"EN-US\">Instructions regarding general eligibility, submission, evaluation criteria and other relevant information are also published in the\u00a0<\/span><a id=\"OWA0d7d6d97-4e50-b509-e27b-2f78db8040ed\" class=\"x_OWAAutoLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.biodiversa.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/BiodivNBS_Call_Documents_final.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-auth=\"NotApplicable\" data-linkindex=\"5\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">official Call Announcement Documents<\/span><\/a><span lang=\"EN-US\">.<\/span>\r\n<p class=\"x_x_MsoNormal x_elementToProof\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">In order to be eligible, transnational research consortia must be composed of eligible research partners from<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">\u00a0<\/span><b><span lang=\"EN-US\">minimum 3 different\u00a0<\/span><\/b><strong><a id=\"OWA6f5b10c6-2cf6-3609-b295-08fbc9b65609\" class=\"x_OWAAutoLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.biodiversa.eu\/participating-funding-organisations-biodivnbs\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-auth=\"NotApplicable\" data-linkindex=\"6\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">countries financially participating<\/span><\/a><\/strong><strong><span lang=\"EN-US\">\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><span lang=\"EN-US\">in the Call<\/span><strong><span lang=\"EN-US\">\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><span lang=\"EN-US\">and\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">requesting support from\u00a0<b>minimum 3<\/b>\u00a0different Funding Organisations; including\u00a0<b>at\u00a0<\/b><\/span><b><span lang=\"EN-US\">minimum\u00a0<\/span><\/b><b><span lang=\"EN-US\">2<\/span><\/b><span lang=\"EN-US\">\u00a0different EU Member States or<strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><span class=\"x_x_MsoHyperlink\"><span lang=\"EN-US\"><a id=\"OWA20129e77-df05-0d86-1a56-0873a0e2c5b5\" class=\"x_OWAAutoLink\" href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/info\/funding-tenders\/opportunities\/docs\/2021-2027\/common\/guidance\/list-3rd-country-participation_horizon-euratom_en.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-auth=\"NotApplicable\" data-linkindex=\"7\">EU Associated Countries<\/a><\/span><\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">.<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p class=\"x_x_MsoNormal x_elementToProof\"><span>Czechia participates in the call and the funding organisation is the Technology Agency of the Czech Republic.<\/span><\/p>\r\n<b><span lang=\"EN-GB\">Budget &amp; Duration:<\/span><\/b>\r\n<p class=\"x_x_MsoNormal\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">For this call a total amount of over <strong>\u20ac30 000 000<\/strong> has been provisionally reserved by the participating Funding Organisations (see the list in the table 1, pages 18-21 at the<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">\u00a0<\/span><a id=\"OWA81de4dd3-ef2f-8fb9-7a6d-2cf5c5688ac0\" class=\"x_OWAAutoLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.biodiversa.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/BiodivNBS_Call_Documents_final.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-auth=\"NotApplicable\" data-linkindex=\"8\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">call document<\/span><\/a><span lang=\"EN-US\">).<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p class=\"x_x_MsoNormal\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">The indicative total call budget is <strong>\u20ac40 000 000<\/strong>, including the EC contribution. The European Commission (EC) will also provide funding for the funded projects depending on the final total funding amount for research proposals committed by the participating Funding Organisations eligible for EC-funding.<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p class=\"x_x_MsoNormal\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">The total indicative budget for each Funding Organisation are available at the list in the table 1, pages 18-21 at the\u00a0<a id=\"OWAd76b0c54-2cf2-9f61-dd53-4c71aef2761a\" class=\"x_OWAAutoLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.biodiversa.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/BiodivNBS_Call_Documents_final.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-auth=\"NotApplicable\" data-linkindex=\"9\">call document<\/a>).\u00a0<\/span>Please note that Funding Organisation may have defined maximum requested budget per project.<\/p>\r\n<p class=\"x_x_MsoNormal\">The reserved budget for Czechia is\u00a0<span class=\"x_ContentPasted0\"><strong>\u20ac680 000<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p class=\"x_x_MsoNormal\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">Each participant in a funded project will be preferentially funded by his or her Funding Organisation(s) participating in the call.<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p class=\"x_x_MsoNormal\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">The additional funding provided by the EC for the funded project will be distributed through the EC-eligible Funding Organisations.<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p class=\"x_x_MsoNormal\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">The aim of the call is to fund medium size projects (with a total budget of typically <strong>\u20ac1 200 000 &#8211; \u20ac1 500 000<\/strong> on average; but note that this constitutes an indication rather than a formal limit).<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p class=\"x_x_MsoNormal\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\">The project duration is 3 years. Projects are expected to act as transnational project and not as a mosaic of national projects; to this end, as far as possible Partners should participate in the project for its entire duration. However, as needed, position of some team members can be requested for only part of the project\u2019s duration, as long as at least one member of each Partner remains involved for the whole project
